How geode cracking works
Shops sell uncut geodes by size, usually from a bin or barrel. Most are coconut geodes from Mexico (Las Choyas, Trancas, Druzy Mist, Crystal Canyon, Crystalline Bravo) with quartz, amethyst, calcite, or agate banding inside. The geode goes into the cracking device, which could be a Pirate Wheel barrel, a tabletop ratchet, a large plier, or a hydraulic press, and a chain tightens until it splits along its natural seam. Cracking is usually included in the price of the geode. More about how it works and common questions.
